What your money actually buys
Here is the honest math. Most distillery tours bought direct cost $12 to $40 per person. Buffalo Trace's flagship tour is free, but tickets release 8 weeks out on Wednesdays at 10am EST and sell out in minutes, per the distillery. So a $189 to $275 tour is not selling you the tasting. It is selling you three things: guaranteed entry at distilleries that sell out, a driver so nobody does tasting math, and a full day stitched together with no planning.
Run the DIY numbers for two people visiting three distilleries: tasting fees alone run $24 to $120, plus a rental car, plus roughly 100 miles of driving between Louisville and the distillery clusters. The tour premium buys certainty. Whether that is worth it depends on how much you value the Buffalo Trace guarantee, because that is the single hardest ticket in bourbon country to get on your own.

Fine print worth reading
Cancellation terms split the field. Mint Julep's tours, both B&C tours, and the trolley all offer free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead. Ky Bourbon Tours and Bourbon Experience are nonrefundable, so only book those when your dates are locked.
Lunch is the other split. Included on Mint Julep's full day, Bourbon Experience, and the Churchill Downs combo. Not included on the B&C Bourbon Experience Tour, where you stop and pay. On a 7 to 9 hour day, that is a real cost difference, so factor it into the price comparison.
Group size matters more here than on most tours. A 10 to 12 person van moves through distilleries at a different pace than a 22 to 32 person group, especially at Buffalo Trace where tour groups stack up. If intimacy matters, pay the premium for the smaller caps.
